Response Question: Trust and suspicion (pages 61-113)

Tim lies to his father about running errands for Mr. Heron. He is also confused about the information Mr. Heron shared with Betsy. Ultimately, Mr. Heron's message was just a way to test Tim, and this also frustrates Tim. Why is Tim confused? Why didn't Mr. Heron trust Tim from the beginning? Why are the people of Redding growing distrustful? Mr. Meeker is trying to keep his family out of the war. Is remaining neutral going to be an option for Mr. Meeker or anyone in Redding?

Tim is confused about the situation with Mr. Heron because of when Mr. Heron tells Tim to deliver the important letter to test if Tim is reliable or not. After that, when Mr. Heron sees Tim, Mr. Heron acts natural and does not mention about the letter. He would just ask him how is he doing and how is his day. Mr. Heron didn't trust Tim because Mr. Heron thought that Tim wasn't reliable and plus his father didn't let him go. People from Redding are growing distrustful because the Rebels went to their homes and took their guns, bought to much and even took some of their livestock. The remaining neutral will not be an option for Mr. Meeker. =]

Tim is confused about the situation because while he was delivering it he bumps into Betsy who tell's Tim that the letter was not what he thought it was. After Tim delivered the message he see's Mr. Heron and they don't say any words to each other except for how is your day. Mr. Heron did not trust Tim because he knew that his father was not a big fan of his. People from Redding are growing distrustful because when the Rebles came to there homes they took guns, and many other things that are hard to get during the war. I don't think that the remaining neutral will be an option for Mr. Meeker.

Tim is confused about the letter that Mr.Heron gave him because he isn't really sure what was it for. And Plus when he bumped into Betsy she told him that it was a letter to tell where his brother Sam was and that kind of messed with his head. I think Mr.Heron didn't trust Tim because his father is a tory and also his father didn't let him go so that's what made it suspicious. The people of Redding is growing distrustful because the Rebels came and took the people of Redding's gun and so they are weaponless and have to be careful. Remaining Neteutral for the people of Redding or Mr.Meeker wouldn't be an option because they are basically being controlled.

Tim is probably confused, because why would Mr. Heron tells Tim to deliver the message when the message is very important and it was Tim's first time delivering the message. Mr. Heron did not trust Tim, because how could he believe Tim if he lied to his own father and that liying was a sin. People in Redding are going distrustful, because their life are turning around right now. I think that remaining neutral is really not an option and Mr. Meeker has to choose one side on the war. Tim is confused about the sittuation with Mr. Herron because during the deliver he ran into Betsy and she told him something about the letter that is not what he it was. People in Redding growing distrustful because they are on Bristish side and the Rebels always took thier supplies such as food and gun. And there are not an option for Mr. Meeker or anyone in Redding.

Tim is confused about the letter, because he doesn't fully understand the siuation he's in. His father tells him not to do the task for Mr. Heron, while Mr. Heron makes it like it's no big thing. Mr. Heron didn't trust Tim, therefore, because Tim's mind was so rattled, he didn't know what would happen if he gave the letters to Tim. He didn't know if he would be reliable with such a shaky mind. The people in Redding are growing distrustful because of the constant shadiness of both sides of the fight, and staying neutral will cause downfalls, when everyone is going to be forced to pick a side.

Pete makes a great point. He says, "they [the people of Redding] are basically being controlled. My question is WHO is controlling the people? the Rebels? the Loyalists? King George?

It is difficult for us in modern America to understand what it is like to have a war being fought in your backyard. Ashley is right; sooner or later, everyone will be forced to pick a side.

Tim is confused because for one thing, he may find the envy between Mr. Heron and his father to be strange. Secondly, Mr. Heron tests Tim to see if he is responsible to deliver a message. Not to mention, Betsy totally throws Tim off with the exception that the letter isn't what it appears to be. So these are just some of the few reasons why Tim may be confused. Mr. Heron however, does not trust Tim because of the relationship between him and Tim's father. The people of Redding are growing distrustful because the Rebels took their guns. Guns were known to be very valuable when used not only for hunting but for sport. I say that as for Mr. Meeker, remaining neutral won't do him any good. He'll eventually have to pick a side just like everybody else.

The errand that Tim went on was very difficult for him to understand. First, Betsy explained to Tim what that letter must have been for. She said, "it was a spy report on Sam, because him and others were buying beef, so Mr. Heron is sending the report to the Lobsterbacks to kill Sam and the others." Then when the letter was revealed and it just said,"when this message gets sent then i know that the messenger is reliable." This puzzled Tim becasue why didnt Mr. Heron just say, "I want to see if i could trust you this once, and then ill give you a real errand." This had risen suspicion directed to Mr. Heron making him seem like hes hiding something. I think that the people of Redding are becoming distrustful because they are still trying to define they are against the British or for the British which makes many conflicts. Mr. Meeker cannot remain neutral to keep his family out of the war because you must choose a sign.
