On p. 174, Mrs. Meeker says, "War turns men into animals." What information has she just learned that prompts her to make this statement? Based on what has happened in the novel and your own observations, do you agree or disagree with Mrs. Meeker?

Mrs.Meeker said war turns men into animals because when Sam came in the tavern he talked about how soldiers are stealing people's cattle and food and Sam admitted that he did it to. I agree because this war caused men to kill little kids, and one of them was Tim's friend. Also this war caused Sam to be killed because he was blamed for stealing his own cattle by two other men. ~.-
Mrs. Meeker made the statement "War turns men into animals" due to the discussion in which she possibly heard from Sam. Sam had admitted his childish and rude behavior when he had stole food and cattle from other people along with several other soldiers during the war. Based on what has happened up to this point and what I know, I actually agree with Mrs. Meeker. I feel as though the war does have an affect on the men because they were being brutal toward people and they also killed poor Sam for taking part in something so ridiculous as stealing food from the people.
Mrs. Meeker said that "war turns men into animal", because Sam had described how the hungry soldiers were stealing food when they are desperate for food. She learned that no matter how good of a soldier you are, you would still do things that are bad. I disagree with Mrs. Meeker, because some still remained honest and didn't steal anything.
Mrs. Meeker says "War turns men into animals" because am has just informed her that soldiers were stealing cattle. And he admitted to being a thief himself. However, I disagree with Mrs. Meeker. I would not compare men to animals. When men fight in a war, they are fighting in an organized manner for a good cause and not just going wild.
Mrs. Meeker says, "War turns men into animals" because he overheard sam admitting to his poor behaviors like stealing food from other people and such. I agree with Mrs. Meeker because even though when men are fighting in war, they still do a lot of things they know they shouldnt be doing.
Mrs. Meeker is wrong. Men aren't animals. She was just jealous because she didn't have as many rights as men did back then. If a man is fighting in the army they are couragous and brave. If they were hungry and starving while your home eating with your family, who says that they should fight for you? In novel they shouldn't have killed the kid and because of the robbery Sam was kiilled but there are soldiers today that get killed with friendly fire. Accidents happen sometimes but you just don't hear about it often because the government covers up everything to make us look like this perfect country but we really aren't. Our president right now can barely read and he has someone else right his speeches for him. It degrades us as a country to a certain extent because our images of our country are ridiculous. Our countries image used to be Colombia, a beautiful women and they seen our image as that. It used to be Uncle Sam, a older man who was wise and we had strong younger people as icons as well. Today we are known as the country who is ready to fight at any time, the country who tries to tell other countries how to run theirs the right way. Who are we to do that? Actually we don't do it. The government does it. The government is the reason why we have to fear for our lives, why we pay high taxes every year so that inmates have a better life in jail. The government does inside deals that we will never know about. Our president said that sometimes when he goes to sleep he dreams about Dr. Seuss. What kind of image is that for our country?! The government is the reason why we are at war and the reason why September 11th happened. They don't have to fear for their lives, we do. So Mrs. Meeker is right to a certain extent and it can give us an idea of the realities that do happen in real life. If Sam didn't tell them their families would probably just think that their son or whoever was fighting probably just got killed. We aren't revealed to the truth and we will always be hidden from the truth. We will never know what to believe unless it's a primary source and we have proof of it.
Mrs. Meeke said war turns men into animals because Sam told her the stories about soliders stealing food from the people. I agree with Mrs. Meeker war tends to bring out the savage sides of people. People with go to great lengths to get what they want in war and they might not care about who they hurt in the process. In war you are fighting for your life and might think killing is ok because you are defending yourself and what you think is right so killing might be less thought of as a severe act.
I completely agree with the concept that war turns men into animals. The whole book is an example of that. Men are being executed for crimes they didn't commit, and children are being killed because of what their family is. The army men were stealing food and cattle, and giving a perfect example of what the war does to people.
