I wasnt really suprise by Tim's reaction after he found out his father has died because its been so long since they last seen each other. For instance when my mom lost contact with her father and almost 10-15 years or more have passed she found out that her father had passed away and she didn't cry or anything because I think she didn't know how to feel after that long. I'm not really suprise on how Mr.Meeker died because if a disease is spread around on a slave ship you are bound to die because no one is going to help you.
Actually, I'm really not suprised that Tim's father or Mr. Meeker died. I mean, if you haven't heard a single thing from someone whose been captured not to mention around that time too, I would pretty much suspect that they were dead. It's kind of sad though. As for Mr. Meeker, I feel that there was a possibility that at that time,it was easy to die from such serious diseases than if you were affected with one today.
I am not surprised by Tim's reaction toward his father being dead. I think that because Tim has already have been hearing his mother say that his father is dead, so Tim must of been use to hearing that bad news. Then when Mr. Meeker actually died, Tim was expecting to hear it already. I am surprised how Mr. Meeker died because i expected him to die from someone shooting him or executing him. It turns out he died from a disease which was common back then.
I am surpirsed because hearing that your dad is dead by other people is different then knowing that your father is dead because any one can say what they want some people probably said it because they didnt like his father or what side he was on. Knowing that your father is dead is different because you know for a fact andf you cant get him back. I am surprised by the way he died because who would have thought he would die by a disease I would have thought he would have gotten killed by people in the army.
I agree with Renata just knowing the fact that you dad is gone, is hard for anyone . It might be different if it's someone else's father but when it happens to you it becomes a different outcome. I do understand that he was kind of mean but that still his father .
